We released Android app version 1.0.12

New update of Bopup Messenger for Android platform is available, it is version 1.0.12. This release added a useful improvement that now shows a small notification icon within contact that indicates a receipt of new (unread) messages. Previous versions of the messenger application had no that indicator so new incoming messages could be only discovered on "Messages" tab that contains all received messages for current session. We strongly recommend to update the application to work with it with more ease and convenience.

Version 1.0.11 of the Android app added support for 12-hour clock format

We just updated Bopup Messenger for Android and released it's version 1.0.11. This update added support for 12-hour clock format (US-based time) that shows AM/PM indicators in time of messages. By default the messenger shows these indicators and new setting must be used from the Options to turn this off.

Another small improvement is about group conversations that now show '@' symbols in their titles in beginning group name.

Critical update of the messenger app for Android

We updated Bopup Messenger for Android and released it's version 1.0.9. Previous version 1.0.8 that came 3 days ago contains a critical bug that crashes the app on it's startup. The reason was in ProGuard tool that is used to build a release application. We fixed settings of that tool and it seems that now the IM client starts and works correctly. IM Client version 1.0.9 for Android is already available on Google Play market.

New version of the IM client for Android platform

New update of Bopup Messenger for Android has been released and posted on Google Play market. It is version 1.0.8 that now removes Beta from it's version title.

This update of the IM client supports flags set for user's Contact List on the communication server such Locked state and Chat with only users from the contacts. Version 1.0.8 also fixed issue with showing outgoing messages on the "Messages" tab within all incoming (received) messages.

Another most important change is a smaller size of the client. We removed all log.d() function calls from the release build that were used for internal debugging of the messenger software. It seemed those calls made working the IM client slower and required extra resources.

IM Server fixes autorization of Android clients if Windows Authentication is enabled

We released a priority update for the communication server that fixed problem with accepting the Android clients if Windows Authentication is enabled for user accounts. It seems that the IM server had a bug that did not allow to connect from Android devices under the same account name used by a user in desktop messenger. We strongly recommend to update an existing server software to version 4.3.17 to avoid this issue.

Useful update of the communication server software

We released Bopup Communication Server version 4.3.11 that comes with useful improvements and updates. It also solves the issue explained in the recent post when Android app is unable to connect if Windows Authentication is used for the user account. See detailed information on changes in this version below.

What's new:

Added function to set a password for a user manually if Private login/password authentication is used
The server console added an option to set a password for the account if third-party authentication is used. That's too useful addition because our customers asked about this function for a long time. So now it is possible to change password for the account manually through account properties window and not only to reset it in order to force the user to create a new one by himself.

Added ability to use same IM account name on Android messenger app even if Windows Authentication is enabled
Another important change is about support of the messenger application for Android platform. Prior versions of the IM server required to have different accounts for the same user if the software works on Windows domain network. Or change the authentication for that user to Private login/password mode. The latest version of the server now supports using the same IM account on different devices, and use Windows Authentication on desktop messenger and Private login/password for Android app.

Fixed issues with checking new updates
We were reported that the console did not check for updates correctly and even brought a connection error message. That forced us to discover several issues and one was in our website since May 2014! Now everything works as it should and properly.

Known issue: Android app does not support Windows Authentication

Here is an issue with authentication used by our IM client for mobile platform called Bopup Messenger for Android. It does not support Windows Authentication so the application cannot accept domain name, account and password to connect to communication server and brings an SSPI authorization error. The problem is in SSPI mechanism used by our IM server and which is not supported by Android platform because it's implementation is available for Windows system only. We will try to work out this issue in future versions of the software, stay updated.

A long time coming release of the Android app

We are glad to inform that new release of our Bopup Messenger for Android platform has been released. The latest version 1.0.7 introduces many additions and improvements, it is much useful and better than all prior versions of the IM client because settings interface is provided too.

What's new:

Added localization to Spanish language
Now the app supports Spanish if the same localization is set on the Android device.

Added option to automatically launch the app on system startup
The main issue from app's first release was the absence of an option to start it automatically. Version 1.0.7 added Settings page and the option to launch app on a device startup is also provided.

Added option to automatically show incoming message (conversation) on it's reception
The settings page in the app also added option to automatically show new message within a conversation once it is received. If this option is checked then the messenger would select a message' sender in Contact List and display a conversation. If another chat conversation is opened then it will be switched to a new one.

Added sound alert and vibrate notification on a receipt of messages
Another important options belong also to receipt of incoming messages. Prior versions of the messenger app had no any alerts on this. Version 1.0.7 added vibrate alert and ringtone sound that can be turned through the options.

Bopup Messenger for Android also fixes many little bugs and added another minor improvements. We highly recommend to update existing applications running on Android platform. New version is also available on Google Market at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blabs.bopup.messenger

Minor update of the Android app

A minor update of Bopup Messenger for Android platform is released and it's version 1.0.6 beta is available. This release added support for notification when the communication server interrupts the established connection if another user enters to the IM network from Windows PC or Android device using the same account name. In that case the messenger app disconnects from the IM server and shows an appropriate message event.

Messenger for Android comes with great improvements

New version 1.0.3.140614 Beta of Bopup Messenger for Android is available for download. This version added few additions and improvements, review them below.

Added support for events on addition, change or removal of assigned messaging groups
Now the messenger supports instant events sent by the IM server on messaging groups. It immediately shows newly added groups, updates renamed name/description of existing group, and removes groups from Contact List if a user has been unassigned from them.

Added support to display forwarded messages that have been sent from another IM client under the same user account
The app receives and displays messages in conversations that have been sent from another IM client connected under the same user account. The option to forward instant messages to all connected messengers is managed on the IM server.

Fixed issue with updating user presence in Contact List
Another major fix is about update of a user presence status shown in contacts. We found that prior versions of the Android app updated only first user in the Contact List, the latest version fixes this issue.

Beta-testing of Bopup Android app is opened!

We are proud to inform our customers that we launched a public testing of IM client for Android platform. Our first preview release of Bopup Android app is available on Google Play market and can be downloaded for test purposes at https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.blabs.bopup.messenger

Since the app may include a lot of issues and bugs (because it is alpha) we created a Google Group that is opened to everyone who has suggestions or wants to report about possible problems in the app. It is easy to join to the group and to participate, just proceed the following link Invitation To Bopup Android App group A member of testing group may discuss functionality with other testers, suggest new features, get fast response and feedback from our developers team.

Yes, we understand that this first version of our Android app is too simple. It has no options yet, cannot organize contacts, create user account on a first connection to the communication server, the app does not provide file transfer functions and history... But it is important for us to hear feedbacks and reports from testers that are interested in a future use of the Android app in their environment and have a various range of Android devices.
