New major update of Bopup Communication Server released

Our IM server application has been updated and it's version 5.1.0 has been released. This recent update of Bopup Communication Server comes with many new additions and changes, most of useful and important are described below.

What's new in Bopup Communication Server 5.1.0:

Added localization to Russian language
This release of the communication server added Russian translation including interface of the Setup Wizard, Desktop and Program menu shortcuts and the interface of Management Console. The localization also applied the IM Client Configuration Tool. This is the most useful and important update for our Russian customers and users.

Showing data from Messaging History is speed up
Management Console improved the speed of result list update showing data in Message History views. Prior versions could take a lot of time to refresh that lists if a huge number of messages and transfer have been selected. Now it should work faster and show up to 65,535 records instead of previous 10,000.

Management Console checks and registers IM service module if it is missing
Another annoying and common issue that our customers might face with is a sudden missing of Bopup Communication Server service from Services list. This could appear during Windows update or during a upgrade of the communication server software to a new version. Now the Management Console checks that the service exists in the system and registers it if otherwise.

Saving message logs to text files
The new version activates the option to save shown instant messages and file transfers in the Message History to a text file even no data is currently selected. In this case all shown data will be saved into a file. Otherwise only selected messages and transfers will be saved.

Fixed issues with upgrade previous versions
We noticed that sometimes new version 5.x of the IM server could not update an existing version 4.x correctly and interface of the Management Console started showing bugs like some resources missing. That could appear of the communication server was initially installed to a directory that differs from default location at "\Program Files\Bopup Communication Server\" (or "\Program Files (x86)\Bopup Communication Server\" on 64-bit systems) so some newly added resources of version 5.x still copied to default location. The version 5.1.0 fixed this.

Bopup Communication Server version 5.0 is available

We are proud to present a major version 5.0 of Bopup Communication Server software. The new release introduces great modern interface of Management Console that includes fully re-designed HTML views, flat icons and other images. We believe that version 5.0 of the communication server will be liked by our existing customers because it represents a new era of Bopup IM software platform.

A brief overview of the new interface changes

New modern design of the Management Console interface
We changed a lot of belonging the user's GUI in the new version of the console. Now the views to display user accounts, groups, news, file distirbution tasks look different. But same information can be read and accessed easily because some displayed details have been compacted.

How the few from new views look now
Dashboard view (former Welcome screen)
User account profile page
File Distribution task profile
IM Client Configuration Tool
We renamed a well-known Setup.ini Configuration Tool that manages instant messenger settings from the server console.

IM Client Configuration Tool (former Setup.ini Configuration Tool)

That's because the Setup.ini file can be used on initial deployment of the software (to set the name of the IM server, for example) but in most of other cases the tool is used directly from Management Console to change and distribute new options to users with no handling the setup.ini file itself.

Added a check of Organization Unit permissions on moving user accounts
The new version now checks both previous and new OUs' permissions on moving users between then and if the permissions match then users' Contact Lists are not reset and keep unchanged.

Improved Active Directory Import Wizard
The interface of the Import Wizard added a log window that shows a process of the import procedure. That's the same log that can be accessed at any time from Tools menu.

A lot of minor and other important fixes and improvements
There are a huge number of small bug fixes and enhancements that the new version 5.0 of the communication server added. In overall the new release has become more stable and faster.

Improvement updates of the messenger and observer applications

We released new versions of Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer client. Recent updates come with a little improvement of a hidden option called UseSilentMode. The IM client does not show Connection Setup Wizard on startup of the setting is set to UseSilentMode=1. In this case only connection/disconnection balloon messages are shown in System Tray area.

By default UseSilentMode hidden option is equal 0 that means that the instant messenger displays all warnings/errors and automatically brings wizards to a user. This option can be set using setup.ini configuration file during initial setup or upgrade of the software, and also from the server console using IM Client Updates & Branding interface.

New versions of the messenger and observer clients

We released new updates of the in the past few days. These are not major updates because come with a little changes.

The most important change in Bopup Messenger is a new hidden option that allows to do no show group messages sent by a recipient when a personal conversation is opened with him. The option called "HideGroupMessagesInConversation" and can be set on initial setup of the software using Setup.ini file or via Setup.ini Configuration Tool available as a stand-alone tool in Downloads.

Since current version of the IM server software contain an older version of the configuration tool it is impossible to use the new option in the client. The only way is to update the setupcfg.exe file in the installation directory of Bopup Communication Server manually once you download the tool from the website.

Another change is about AM/PM time format that has been added in previous release of the instant messaging clients. The messenger fixes displaying of 12:00 time when 12:00AM shown instead of 12:00PM.

The messenger client also resolves the problem with a scroll bar in conversations. It could appear in a middle of the screen if conversation includes many messages.

Major updates both of the messenger and observer IM clients

In addition to the recent update of the communication server application new versions of Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer are available for download. Version 6.5 of the messenger and version 5.5 of the observer client come with great additions and improvements, see changes below.

What's new

Added option to display time of messages in 12-hour clock format with AM/PM indicators
It is important to show currencies, time and other values in the applications according to user's current locale and settings. Since most of our customers are from US we added support to show time of messages and file transfer in 12-hour clock format with including AM/PM symbols. Now new option is available in IM client options and it can be also set from the communication server.

Added options that override default colors of sender and recipient titles in conversations
There is a great  news about colors in conversations. Now it is possible to customize them and set any other color for sender's and recipient's names shown in conversations. Default colors are blue and gray but the colors can be easily overridden using Setup.ini Configuration Tool on the IM server or via setup.ini file during initial install. These colors cannot be customized by users themselves from the IM client.

Added options that restrict changing text font, color and inserting smileys (emotions) to outgoing messages
Using client settings uploaded on the IM server is also possible to restrict other functions in the IM client such as changing font and color text for outgoing messages, inserting graphic emotions or using 'typing sound' feature. These options are also hidden and cannot be controlled directly from instant messaging applications.

Bopup Communication Server version 4.3.10

Today, 13th February we updated our instant messaging server applications and released version 4.3.10. New version of the IM server fixes possible issues with starting up of Management Console on Windows 2008 R2 edition. We also added an option to display time everywhere in the console in 12-hour clock format with AM/PM indicators. This would be a useful update for our US customers. Another addition is about displaying connection string used to connect to the SQL Server, that is now shown in the SQL database maintenance dialog. It's value can be requested by our technical support representer in some cases so it will not be necessary to open registry editor to retrieve that value in the future.

The new server package also includes the latest version of Setup.ini Configuration Tool that now lets set up custom colors for sender's/recipient's titles in conversation and block options in sending message dialog for users such as changing text font and color, inserting emotions and using the 'typing message' sound.

Set the amount of displayed messages in IM client conversations

Both Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer clients have been updated. Among a lot of minor improvements and fixes the messenger application added a new hidden option named "MessagesInConversation" that controls the amount of both sent and received messages shown in conversations of sending dialogs. This option can be set during initial installation or upgrade of the IM client through setup.ini file or using Setup.ini Configuration Tool that is a part of the communication server.

By default the messenger shows all incoming and outgoing messages for current session established with the IM server. Using the new option it is now possible to show no messages (except unread) in conversations each time when a new sending dialog is opened. In this case the option must be set to 0 value.

Prevent removing the messenger by users by using new versions of the IM clients

In addition to the IM server both Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer have been updated too and versions 6.3.3 and 5.3.3 have been released accordingly. Most important newly added function is a hidden "DisableUninstall" option that was added to [INSTALL] section of the client configuration file. That setting can be controlled via initial setup/version update of the messenger by using Setup.ini file placed near it's MSI package file or can be managed via Setup.ini Configuration Tool from the communication server on distribution client settings.

This option removes Remove button for the messenger application in "Programs and Features" panel ("Add/Remove Programs" in earlier versions of Windows) and blocks it's uninstallation by end-users. That's important if administrator wants to be sure that nothing can do troubles in a proper starting up the instant messaging clients on users' computers.

New version 6.3.3 of Bopup Messenger also fixed the "Use idle away as automated response to incoming personal messages" if this setting is specified in configuration file downloaded from Bopup Communication Server.

The messaging clients also fixed issues with program "hotkey" to call a main window from System Tray or Task Bar areas. Previously it could operate with only Ctrl+Alt keys and without any letter symbol specified in the options.

New version of the IM server added control to disregard messenger configuration for specific user accounts

We released new versions of our instant messaging software a couple days ago. New updates, as always, added useful options and features because we work hard on the software applications and try to hear customers' suggestions and requirements. In this view latest version 4.2.2 of Bopup Communication Server added very useful and important function that allows to do not deliver and not apply IM client configuration file (setup.ini) for a user account if his roles require that.

Yeah, distribution of the client option is a great feature. But sometimes this function interferes in user's permissions and rights if he or she requires to get a full control over messenger options. That was unsupported because options distributed to all users in the IM system. Another problem if the instant messaging system has few users or user groups that connect from different locations. That means that they use different server name or it's address and a single settings file will not work. And that causes problems.

We met suggestions and reports of our customers so now Management Console of Bopup Communication Server includes new option on a user's profile window. It is called "Disregard settings file".

Checking this option disregards delivery of currently uploaded settings file for Bopup Messenger or Bopup Observer clients.

Version 4.2.2 of the communication server also comes with updated Setup.ini Configuration Tool which added option to prevent uninstallation of messenger clients from Programs and Features panel (Add/Remove Programs in older systems).

Major security update for Bopup Communication Server

We released new version of the communication server 4.1.6 which fixes a security issue with creation of user accounts from instant messaging clients. User were able to create any IM accounts and connect to the server even it's option restrict that. This issues appears only if Active Directory (LDAP) integration feature is enabled on the server.

This fix has a high-priority level so we advise our customers to update their existing software as soon as possible.

New versions of the IM client software are also available, and Bopup Messenger 6.1.5 and Bopup Observer 5.1.5 are ready for download. These updates add a support for new hidden option named "DisableRememberMeOption" that can be now found in setup.ini settings file and Setup.ini Configuration Tool. It lets disable "Remember me on this computer" checkbox on the "Log in" tab in the messengers if the client software is used on shared or public computers, for example.

Access the instant messengers from Taskbar on Windows desktop

New versions both of Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer client software added a new setting to the Options dialog that allows to show the application in Taskbar. This is a useful addition because it is possible to access and bring the main window of the messenger on the front of Windows desktop if it is already open by clicking it's icon in Taskbar.

The server-side application, Bopup Communication Server, has been also updated. It comes with new version of Setup.ini Configuration Tool that supports then new IM client setting.

The IM client software also improved applying settings that are instantly downloaded from the communication server. Previously downloaded options are now deleted from the messenger if there is no any settings file uploaded on Bopup Communication Server. This function allows to reset current settings in the messengers simply by removing configuration file from Management Console.

The latest version of Bopup Messenger improved a speed of sending messages. No delay occurs in the client if text messages are typed quickly and sent rapidly. Even there is some error with empty message field or selected recipient in the interface shown balloon tooltips do not block and do not freeze any more!

Structured Contact Lists, instant update of IM client settings... Meet new versions of Bopup IM software!

We are happy to announce that new versions of Bopup IM software have been released. These major updates both of the communication server and instant messenger clients bring all-new and powerful functionality which makes our software more better, handy and useful.

What's new:

Structured Contact Lists

There was very annoying question in our software: plain Contact Lists in the messenger clients. Yes, it works fine if there is a little amount of users on the messaging network. But what's about if there is 50, 100 or more users?

New version 4.1.0 of Bopup Communication Server added a new option that allows to deliver structured, tree-based contacts to connected users. Now users can be shown under their Organizational Units like you they are shown in Management Console on the server.

Instant update of IM clients settings

Another important features is a delivery new and changed settings to the messenger clients without having to wait for a new release. Now client settings can be distributed to users "on-the fly" — on the next connection to the IM server. New versions of the messengers always check for updated settings once they establish a connect with the IM server and download a new set of options if it is available.

Setup.ini Configuration Tool is now a part of the IM server

Do you know about our Setup.ini Configuration Tool? Did you have a chance to use it? Forget about changing and modifying the setup.ini file youself to set the options for the messenger software. Because we built a great tool that let generate or edit existing configuration file through a graphic interface that is similar to the Options dialog of Bopup Messenger.

Now this configuration tool is included to the communication server package. And it is also integrated to server's interface when you create and change IM client settings. Just click to edit the settings and the tool automatically uploads them onto the server.

Multiple conversations are opened in cascade mode

Bopup Messenger added a useful functions that checks and opens multiple sending dialogs in a cascade mode. This prevents a newly opened window from overlapping existings.

Show branding logo in the main window of Bopup Observer

Bopup Observer now shows a branding logo uploaded on the IM server in it's main window too. We added a "Today's Messages" title too (like in Bopup Messenger client) to have a space to get branding logo visible.

A new great tool to create and edit existing Setup.ini configuration file

We are glad to inform our existing customers and new clients that we have released Setup.ini Configuration Tool that helps to easily and fast create new and edit existing setup.ini file.

As you know our IM client software, both Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer clients can be installed and distributed with a set of pre-existing settings. In order to enable this the setup.ini must be placed into the same directory that contains installation package of the instant messenger. The main issue was that the setup.ini settings file includes a lot of options and it is a little difficult to learn which settings are for and to build a proper file by editing file's entry in a text editor.

To support our users we released Setup.ini Configuration Tool that is now available for download at http://www.bopup.com/files/setupcfg.exe This handy utility offers to set up all needed and required options via graphic interface that is similar to the Options window of the instant messenger software.

The options property dialog of the configuration tool looks like the Options dialog box in the Bopup Messenger client. So you can set and clear check boxes like you are working in the messenger. The most of the check boxes are 3-state and having checked, unchecked and undefined states. Each from these states applies the following in the end-user IM client software:
  • Checked — the option will be enabled and grayed out in the messenger client, users will not be able to change it
  • Unchecked — the option will be disabled and grayed out in the messenger client, users will not be able to change it
  • Undefined — the setting will not be included to setup.ini file that means that users will be able to change and modify it from the messengers
The configuration tool also provides a Preview function. It allows to quickly see how the settings will look in the instant messenger interface, i.e. which options will be enabled/disabled and which will be available for change to a user. To preview options click Preview button in the options property dialog.
