New major update of Bopup Communication Server released

Our IM server application has been updated and it's version 5.1.0 has been released. This recent update of Bopup Communication Server comes with many new additions and changes, most of useful and important are described below.

What's new in Bopup Communication Server 5.1.0:

Added localization to Russian language
This release of the communication server added Russian translation including interface of the Setup Wizard, Desktop and Program menu shortcuts and the interface of Management Console. The localization also applied the IM Client Configuration Tool. This is the most useful and important update for our Russian customers and users.

Showing data from Messaging History is speed up
Management Console improved the speed of result list update showing data in Message History views. Prior versions could take a lot of time to refresh that lists if a huge number of messages and transfer have been selected. Now it should work faster and show up to 65,535 records instead of previous 10,000.

Management Console checks and registers IM service module if it is missing
Another annoying and common issue that our customers might face with is a sudden missing of Bopup Communication Server service from Services list. This could appear during Windows update or during a upgrade of the communication server software to a new version. Now the Management Console checks that the service exists in the system and registers it if otherwise.

Saving message logs to text files
The new version activates the option to save shown instant messages and file transfers in the Message History to a text file even no data is currently selected. In this case all shown data will be saved into a file. Otherwise only selected messages and transfers will be saved.

Fixed issues with upgrade previous versions
We noticed that sometimes new version 5.x of the IM server could not update an existing version 4.x correctly and interface of the Management Console started showing bugs like some resources missing. That could appear of the communication server was initially installed to a directory that differs from default location at "\Program Files\Bopup Communication Server\" (or "\Program Files (x86)\Bopup Communication Server\" on 64-bit systems) so some newly added resources of version 5.x still copied to default location. The version 5.1.0 fixed this.

Get new versions of the IM server and messaging clients

Today we released new versions of Bopup Communication Server, Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer. In addition to many changes and improvements we made in the software it comes with all-new Confirmation feature that delivers a confirmed status back to a sender. Confirmed status is also logged in a local Message History and on the communication server and those confirmed messages are shown with double-check icon.

Currently Confirmation functionality is fully supported by Bopup Observer client only and can be enabled from the Options on the IM server. But we plan to extend this function in order to allow to send outgoing messages with confirmation status like urgent and high-priority messages.

Bopup IM software added support for IPv6 protocol

We are proud to announce that both the communication server and IM client software now support IPv6 protocol that is the most recent version of the Internet Protocol (IP). It is intended to replace current version IPv4. The IM server supports also IPv4 so the software can accept connections using different protocols at the same time from messenger clients.

Bopup Communication Server also added new option to Messaging Group profiles that allows to hide a list of assigned users to the group and to do not show them in user's Contact List. So the displayed group cannot be expanded.

Another improvement is related to sorting messages and file transfers shown in Pending, Sent and Deleted/Declined views under Message History in the console. Now the server uses DATETIME SQL data type instead of SMALLDATETIME type used previously that includes seconds within hour and minutes.

Bopup Communication Server fixes sorting issues in Message History

New version 4.3.19 of the communication server is available for download. This update comes with a correct sorting of messages and file transfers shown in Archiving & Logging views. It seems that the data could be displayed within incorrect sorting if it was sent on the same hour and minutes.

Major updates of the IM client applications

Great updates of the instant messenger software are available! We released Bopup Messenger version 6.4 and Bopup Observer 5.4 which come with a huge number of changes, bug fixes and improvements.

What's new:

Great changes applied to displaying conversations
Many improvements and additions occurred in formatting conversation dialogs. We changed colors both for sender's and recipient's titles that include name and time. Blue and red colors have been removed and we started to use neutral gray color to mark headers.

Now each single message in the conversation is separated with an empty string that allows to easily find a recent message among others.

In addition if offline or message to multiple users is sent then that notification text is shown using small font with italic style applied. When offline message is received then appropriate notification is appended to the end of the message in the similar format instead of beginning of message.

File Transfers become visible in conversations too
Another great addition is about incoming and outgoing file transfers that are shown in conversation within instant messages. Information on completed transfers is also instantly shown in conversations.

Empty break lines are removed from messages
The latest version of the messenger client now checks and removes empty strings from the end of messages. This is a useful update that applies to a friendly look of conversations.

Message History dialog fixed issue with invalid symbols shows between selected conversations
Another weird issue was displaying "strange" symbols in Message History if one or multiple items have been selected in the result list. We found out what happened and resolved that error.

OverwrittenAccount option is never ignored even the IM server requires Windows Authentication
Both IM clients support a feature that makes possible to override current account in Windows that would be used by application. That can be done using OverwrittenAccount value under application root in the registry. This tricky option allows to connect to the communication server using different user name but when the IM server requires Windows Authentication then the overwritten account is reverted back to current user ID. The latest versions of the instant messaging clients fix this issue.

New update of Bopup Communication Server

New version 4.3.5 of the communication server is now available for download. This is minor but important update that fixes issues with selection of a huge amount of messages from archive in the console. We noticed that prior versions of the IM server could freeze and hung up if a lot of data is selected in Pending, Delivered, Deleted or Search for Messages views. The new update of the server application selects and shows messages and file transfers faster and with no issues.

Another fix of version 4.3.5 is about exporting Message History to a text file. Since interface of the Management Console shows IP addresses both for recipient and sender we added that information for export too.

Find messages on the IM server by keywords

We glad to inform our users that new version 4.3.4 of Bopup Communication Server goes with a function that allows to search the history archive by keywords. This is too important feature that we were planning to implement in the past 2 years. Now it's done!

It is easy to start using the new function. Just go to the "Logging & Archiving" view of Management Console and then switch to Search for Messages panel. There is new Keywords text field that is optional and can be left blank in order to show all messages from the history. Otherwise enter one or multiple keywords separated by commas. Hope that the new feature will be useful.

In the future we plan to add a new function called Reports. For example, it could create a preset with specific criteria including keywords too to find and show messages in a one click with specific criteria, date and/or user/group.

New versions of the IM clients added minor but useful updates

We released new updates for Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer clients which add a few useful changes and improvements. See below the additions and fixes in the lastest versions of the IM clients.

Added option to send idle away message as automated response to incoming personal messages

The messenger client added a useful option that allows to automatically send responses to incoming personal messages. This is possible if idle away check box is enabled because automated replies can include only current idle away message.

Fixed error with displaying single quote sign (') in the conversation that became a double quote sign

Both clients, the messenger and observer, fix annoying issue with displaying a single quote sign (') in a text of messages in conversations. This sign became shown as a double quote (") which brought problems an important data has been sent. That was not a server or data transmission problem because the client modified the text itself in order to properly save it into message archive stored locally on a user's computer.

Fixed issue when outgoing message was not shown in the conversation

We also found and fixed another weird problem in the messenger client when outgoing instant message has not been shown immediately in the conversation chat. Get the new version to solve that issue.

Improved Message History module

New updates of the IM clients are shipped with improved message history viewer. It fixes problems with selection and display of a huge number of messages and file transfers for a future review, saving to a file or printing.

"User is typing message..." event is now supported!

We glad to inform our customers that new versions of Bopup IM suite are now available for download. Both the come with major versions because we did a lot of work, added useful improvements and fixed many issues. See what is new below.

User typing event
Firstly we need to say about very useful function. Maybe it is known from public messenger when users can see in their conversations that another one is currently typing a message or reply. Year, this adds interactivity interactivity and improves usability. When we see that the reply is being typed we do not close chat window immediately. And now our software provides that support too!

Download and update both the server and client parts in order to be able to use this function. The "User is typing message..." event appears every time in a conversation dialog of Bopup Messenger client. Delivery of this instant notification event is controlled on Bopup Communication Server and you can disable it from the Options dialog box by switching to Messaging tab.

Displaying a huge amount of messages on the server history
Management Console of the communication server fixes issues with showing a great number of messages and file transfers selected from a Message History. That issue also related to displaying some profile pages for account, group and/or news messages. Now data is displayed quickly and with no error even you select thousands records.

Fixed installation of the IM server with built-in SQL Server
Another important issue was installation of Bopup Communication Server with it's built-in database server on latest versions of Windows. Sometimes the setup fails to complete because no connection to the SQL Server could be established. That was a security problem because Windows requires a stronger password for built-in 'sa' account for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express that shipped with the IM server package. We did that.

Forget about duplicate versions of the messenger software in Add/Remove Programs panel
Our customers that distribute and deploy new updates of the IM client using the communication server faced with the problem that previous version of the software might not be properly removed from Add/Remove Programs if the update was initiated under non-administrator user account in Windows. That was too old problem that we know about. Now the messenger software removes it's previous version during an upgrade with keeping all settings and message history.

Adding File Transfers to a messenger local history
Both Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer clients fix error with adding and saving received and sent transfers to Message History. Now al file transfers are properly archived for a future review.

IM Server improves a restore of SQL backups and printing Message History

New version 4.1.4 of Bopup Communication Server has been released on January 27, 2013. It is a not mandatory update but it fixes and improves some useful features of the software.

What's new:

Added new option in the SQL Database Maintenance dialog to restore database backups created on another server

The SQL Database Maintenance dialog of the Management Console adds a new check box that says the console that a SQL database backup (that is intended for restore) was created on another SQL Server and/or another instance of the communication server. It is very important because in that case the backup will be restored with WITH REPLACE option.

Added UAC verification to control status of the IM service

Now the Management Console checks token of administrator account (UAC) under which it is running in Windows Vista and later. If there is no necessary rights to control the IM service from the Welcome page then appropriate message is shown and starting/stopping options for the service are unavailable. In order to control the service the Management Console must be launched with "Run as administrator" option selected from context menu in Windows.

Improved showing and printing Message History containing long messages

New version of Bopup Communication Server fixes issues with displaying and printing long text messages in Message History. We removed scrollbars in the edit boxes that contain the message text and now each conversation is shown and moved to a printing device in whole.

Bopup Communication Server fixes a couple of issues if the logging Message History is disabled

New version 4.0.10 of Bopup Communication Server is released on March 30, 2012. This new version of the server fixes minor problems that may occur both on the server-side and instant messenger software if the option to log and archive Message History on the communication server is turned off.

Previous version 4.0.9 of Bopup Communication Server added a lot of improvements and went with new changes. Some of them was the option called "Enable archiving and logging history on the communication server" located on the "Logging" tab of the Options dialog box. Using that check box administrators can disable the Message History on the IM server at all. Sometimes that is useful and important in some companies.

Now version 4.0.10 fixes some issues that appear on IM client when an online message is successfully sent and the Message History is turned off on the IM server. In that case the instant messenger shows the sent message with the "The message has been saved on the server..." suffix in the conversation like for offline messages even the message goes to an online user.

The Setup Wizard also adds information on 19810 TCP/IP port that is used by the communication server as a primary port. Now it is easier to find and understand which network port should be configured and open on third-party firewall applications, router hardware, etc.

Could Secure Instant Messaging Software Boost Your Business?

You'd be forgiven for thinking that instant messaging software is the sole domain of teenagers who want to chat to their friends — it happens a lot, after all — but there are actually a great many ways that a business can benefit from IM software. More specifically, an instant messaging suite that offers secure intra-office communication along with other features like file sharing and storage. Whether the business sells golf shoes or offers consumers a credit card transfer, IM can help. If you run a business or simply work in an office-based one, consider the amount that you use email over a given day or week. Hours and hours can be spent simply tapping emails back and forth to hammer out issues and discuss projects — but instant messaging offers a far more immediate solution. Rather than having to wait minutes or hours for replies, correspondence is sent in a matter of seconds. Provided each party is present at their end, an IM meeting can be a much quicker and more efficient way to organise a business. Let's take a look at some more ways that a secure IM solution could help give your business a shot in the arm.

Instantaneous communication wherever you are

While it's true that emails can now be received on phones and other mobile devices, for example if O2 mobile operator is used, there's nothing that has quite the same immediacy as an IM chat — except of course a face to face one. But at those times when a meeting like this isn't possible, IM can step in and fill the void. And with a secure solution like the Bopup Instant Messaging Suite, you can feel completely sure that all of the things you're talking about are in the strictest confidence. One of the major downfalls of popular IM clients is that they are susceptible to intrusion from malicious hackers and so on; with a bespoke IM system, your company can keep all of its IM communication within the walls of the business.

On-the-fly file sharing

Nothing is more frustrating than needing a file in the middle of a meeting, then having to walk all the way across an office or up and down an elevator just to find it. With a secure IM system at your business, you can send and receive files in a completely secure way. So no matter what you need, you can get it sent to you right away. This is particularly handy during meetings when files may need to be called upon at a moment's notice. Many IM suites also include a secure file system to keep all sent and received documents safe. When the risk of external interference is removed by running the IM software on a LAN or WAN, there comes an added benefit — the peace of mind of those in charge of running the business and securing business-critical information.

Message logging, accountability and tracking

Running a business is all about efficiency, so it's always useful when staff can track their progress. With a secure IM system like the Bopup Instant Messaging Suite, all messages can be logged on file. This means that managers or users can look up past chats and files that they've dealt with to double check details. Accountability is also important for businesses, so with everything tracked by an IM system, it's easy to see exactly who said what and when. All of these options need to be flexible, of course, so you can turn them on or off at will on most secure IM clients.

As you can see, chatting via IM is for far more than arranging birthday parties and social events — it can be used to genuine business advantage. It can make all communications within an organization centralized, and ensure that files are safe and secure at all times. With the flexibility offered by the options in a system like the Bopup Instant Messaging Suite, any business can turn the software into an invaluable tool for streamlining their processes and optimizing their intra-office communications. Whether they need to use it to encourage communication between colleagues, or they want to start optimizing meetings by holding them in virtual meeting rooms, a secure instant messaging solution can really help.

New version of Bopup Communication Server adds great functions

New version 4.0.9 of Bopup Communication Server has been released. This software is available with a free 45-day trial period and can be downloaded with no any registration from http://www.bopup.com/downloads/

What's new

Added function to save selected messages and file transfers from Archiving & Logging view to a text file

It is easy now to export selected data from the Message History shown in the Management Console to a text file. Select one or multiple messages and transfers by pressing and holding the Ctrl key and then go to "File\Save As..." in the main menu.

Added option to turn off logging and archiving instant messages sent through the communication server

Sometimes company's security policies require to do not store private information, instant messages and conversation history on it's servers. This improves an overall security and avoids situations when someone can access the message archive. But prior versions of our Bopup Communication Server log all messages sent between users by default and there was no option to disable the history.

New version of the IM server provides the setting to turn off the logging history. Now the Message History can be disabled on the "Logging" tab of the Options dialog box using the "Enable archiving and logging history on the communication server" checkbox. Please note that if you clear that box it will delete all messages currently stored in the IM server archive, i.e. all delivered (sent) and deleted & declined messages. Currently pending messages (offline messages) will not be deleted until those messages will be delivered to their recipients or deleted due to expiration timeout.
