Major version 1.2.0 of Bopup Messenger for Android

The new version 1.2.0 of Bopup Messenger for Android is available. This version has a lot of improvements and fixes so we recommend to upgrade the application.

What's new:

The Contacts tab is now shown before Messages
We decided to move the Contacts tab that includes assigned groups and users list to the left and show it prior Messages tab. So now the Android messenger operates like Bopup Messenger for Windows desktop.

The Login tab contains a link to Bopup.me test server
Here is a new addition that is now supported by the messenger application. We launched new Bopup.me website that is also running a shared instance of Bopup Communication Server. This server is designed for evaluation purposes only and it allows to use pre-defined test user accounts in order to establish connection with the IM server and evaluate how the communication works.

Fixed error on selecting messaging groups in Contact List
Another critical fix was selection of assigned group in Contact List. Previous version of the instant messenger could crash on selecting any shown group.

Fixed app crash on connecting to IM server if the messenger was manually disconnected prior this
We noticed that the messenger application crashed everytime on subsequent connect to IM server if it was previously disconnected manually. This error has been also fixed in the recent version.

A lot of interface improvements and fixes
A huge amount of minor fixes and GUI improvements including colors, displaying titles, showing incoming and outgoing messages. They are all important.

Download Bopup Messenger version 6.8.5

We updated our Bopup Messenger that is a full-featured LAN and Internet messaging client for Windows platform and released version 6.8.5 few days ago. The new version comes with interface improvements in conversation dialog that affected to splitter form and GUI elements.

This update also reverted back showing all users under assigned Messaging Groups regardless the "Show online users only" setting applied for Contact List. So offline users are also shown in groups even the Contact List displays only connected accounts.

Minor fixes and improvements of the IM server and messenger client

We updated both Bopup Communication Server and Bopup Messenger software. New version 4.4.1 of the IM server fixed issue with sending News messages in One time only mode. This update also resolved problem with installation of remote Management Console.

Both the server and messenger improved notification support for a change of show/hide assigned users option in the messaging group properties. Now the IM client immediately reflects to this change if the option has been modified on the server console.

Bopup IM Client SDK is now also friendly with IPv6

New version 1.2 of Bopup IM Client SDK supports networks with only IPv6 protocol enabled. This release also added support for new flags set for users' Contact List and Messaging Groups on the communication server.

Bopup IM Client SDK provides functions for connecting and establishing IM session with the communication server, sending/receiving personal and group instant messages, receiving urgent and high-priority tasks from the server, managing user's contacts, receiving presence status updates within the Contact List. This SDK supports various authentication methods to authorize users on the IM server: Simple, Windows Authentication (SSPI) and using Private login and password credentials entered by a end-user.

Using SDK components it is possible to implement instant messaging client applications using various programming languages and platforms including C/C++ and Microsoft VB.NET/C# frameworks. SDK library also provides an interface for VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) environment support that is available as built-in development platform in Microsoft Office software and allows to create macros for a range of Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint and others.

Bopup IM software added support for IPv6 protocol

We are proud to announce that both the communication server and IM client software now support IPv6 protocol that is the most recent version of the Internet Protocol (IP). It is intended to replace current version IPv4. The IM server supports also IPv4 so the software can accept connections using different protocols at the same time from messenger clients.

Bopup Communication Server also added new option to Messaging Group profiles that allows to hide a list of assigned users to the group and to do not show them in user's Contact List. So the displayed group cannot be expanded.

Another improvement is related to sorting messages and file transfers shown in Pending, Sent and Deleted/Declined views under Message History in the console. Now the server uses DATETIME SQL data type instead of SMALLDATETIME type used previously that includes seconds within hour and minutes.

Important update for Bopup Messenger client

We released Bopup Messenger version 6.5.3 that fixes important issue with expanding groups shown in Contact List. A group is always kept collapsed even a user clicks on "+" sign to expand it to show assigned accounts. This bug came with previous version 6.5.2 that improved showing users in the contacts and displaying notifications on new messages from offline users. So it is strongly required to update the messenger client if prior version 6.5.2 was already installed.

IM clients updates are available

New versions both of Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer clients have been released. They fix important and annoying issues and also come with other little improvements.

Option "Reply to group" is enabled by default on an initial installation
We noticed that the option to reply to a messaging group instead of a message's sender is very important and useful. Using the option it is possible to organize a group chat between all assigned users to the group. But this settings was not enabled by default so many users asked us how to have a group conversation because reply option always sent a message to a sender account not to the group. Now Bopup Messenger enables by default on a first ("clear") installation on a computer.

Fixed issue with scrollbar in a conversation dialog when no messages are shown
Another annoying issue was an issue with a scrollbar in a conversation text box that moved up all previous sent and received messages. This could appear when a chat window was automatically opened on an incoming message.

Fixed error on messenger startup when history contains favorite messages
Due to unknown reason the messengers could bring an error on startup when favorite messages existed in the history. We rebuilt the Message History module to solve this error.

Improved pop up of the main window on reception of new messages
We missed function that allows to pop up the main window of the IM client when it is minimized to Task bar area on a receipt of  new message. This functionality is too important on Bopup Observer client.

Messenger for Android comes with great improvements

New version 1.0.3.140614 Beta of Bopup Messenger for Android is available for download. This version added few additions and improvements, review them below.

Added support for events on addition, change or removal of assigned messaging groups
Now the messenger supports instant events sent by the IM server on messaging groups. It immediately shows newly added groups, updates renamed name/description of existing group, and removes groups from Contact List if a user has been unassigned from them.

Added support to display forwarded messages that have been sent from another IM client under the same user account
The app receives and displays messages in conversations that have been sent from another IM client connected under the same user account. The option to forward instant messages to all connected messengers is managed on the IM server.

Fixed issue with updating user presence in Contact List
Another major fix is about update of a user presence status shown in contacts. We found that prior versions of the Android app updated only first user in the Contact List, the latest version fixes this issue.

Bopup Messenger fixed an issue with displaying groups and their assigned users

We released small updates both of Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer messaging clients.

What's new:

Even the messengers come with minor fixes and improvements we recommend to update Bopup Messenger client because it fixes an issue with displaying groups that are longer than 32 symbols of length. Those groups were showing without any errors but the messenger displays no user contacts (assigned users) under them. We discovered and found the bug. Too funny but the problem was in a "hardcoded" length of a value in the code that was 32 bytes of length. We guess that was not modified since that time when messaging groups had only 20 symbols of length, bbut today they can be named up to 64 symbols.

Another useful change belongs to an initialization of a directory to save received files and folders used by the messengers. In prior versions the receiving directory was checked for availability and writing access only on the application startup but that was incorrect in some cases. Now the receiving folder is checked every time when a user or messenger accesses it, for example opens or incoming document are being received. And if that folder becomes invalid then a default path to store data is used that is located in user's profile directory.
