Critical update of the messenger application

New version 6.6.2 of Bopup Messenger client available that fixes a critical bug in GUI. This is an important update of the messenger application and it is required for all releases starting from version 6.6. The problem occurs when the main window of the IM client removes "Contacts" tab if Simple or Windows Authentication is used to connect to the communication server. That causes some interface bugs and does not show "Sign in" tab if a user manually disconnects.

Bopup Observer minor bugfix

New update of Bopup Observer client has been released and it's version 5.5.4 is available for download. This version fixes a minor issue with showing test message box on the messenger startup if the software was installed using brand-logo.bmp (branding logo image) placed near MSI setup file.

Bopup Messenger version 6.6.1 improved idle away mode

Bopup Messenger version 6.6.1 has been released. It is a small update of the IM client application which added useful improvements that belong to idle away mode.

Now the messenger immediately goes to idle away mode once a user locks Windows system. The app also fixes time set in idle away message. The time must be 15 minutes earlier prior idle away is activated.

Useful improvements in the messenger application

We released Bopup Messenger version 6.6 that improved many things and functions. It is not critical update of the IM client but please check changes below, maybe you will find something useful.

What's new:

Added ability to maximize conversation windows

Now conversation dialogs can be maximized to full screen on desktop. This function was blocked in previous versions of the messenger and dialogs could be only minimized or closed.

Today's Messages pane is removed if a user disables it
Another change is about Messages tab shown in the main window of the IM client. Previously that tab was only disabled and could not be switched to but was always shown in the messenger. That fact usually confused our customers and we decided to accommodate and remove the tab when it is disabled from the Options.

Contact List pane moved to the first place
In addition to the previous change when Today's Messages tab can be now shown or hidden we moved the Contacts tab to the first place in the main window. We believe that this is much correct to display contacts and groups first instead of showing received messages.

Names in conversations are shown according to display options
We improved displaying names of sender and recipient in conversations dialogs. Previously names always contained a user account name in braces followed after his/her first and last names. Now names are shown according to options set in Organize Contact List Wizard, i.e. in the same format that is used to display users in the contacts.

Fixed issue when Organize Contact List Wizard could be launched even contacts are locked on IM server
We found and resolved the error with ability to change contacts from the messenger app even they are locked on the communication server. This issue occurred only if a user logs to the IM server using Private login/password authentication.

Contact List permissions has been improved

New versions both of the IM server and messenger software are available for download. Version 4.3.18 of Bopup Communication Server improved messaging and permissions functionality, see the list of changes below:


Added new option that restricts IM other contacts that are not included to user's Contact List

New setting called "Prevent messaging with users that are not from contacts" added to Contact List tab of user's properties dialog in the console.

This option becomes available only if the contacts are locked on the server. Using this option will disable sending replies to contacts when they appear under Not In Contacts list even those users are located in visible/accessible Organizational Unit.


Added new setting that checks OU permission on delivery of private messages between users

The Messaging tab of the Options dialog box in the console added new checkbox called "Check OU permissions on delivering every personal message"

Recent versions of the communication server checked those permissions each time but it could make instant messaging slower in most of times. So now this option is available as a stand-alone and turned off by default.

Improved Active Directory Import Wizard

The server console added some improvements to import wizard. Now it does not stop/start the service that forced a disconnect of all users if the wizard has been executed in Update or Synchronize modes. Restart of the service occurs now only if the wizard went out from Create new mode.

Please note that it is required to update the messenger application to version 6.5.7 in order to support new option that prevents sending messaging to non-contacts users.

Minor update of Bopup Messenger software

New version 6.5.6 of Bopup Messenger client is available for download. This is a minor update of the software that changed a text of idle away message. Now the messenger automatically sends "I’ve been away from the computer since HH:MM" message on all incoming messages after 15 mins of idle, of course if appropriate option is set through the options.

IM Server fixes autorization of Android clients if Windows Authentication is enabled

We released a priority update for the communication server that fixed problem with accepting the Android clients if Windows Authentication is enabled for user accounts. It seems that the IM server had a bug that did not allow to connect from Android devices under the same account name used by a user in desktop messenger. We strongly recommend to update an existing server software to version 4.3.17 to avoid this issue.

Fixed issues with sending automated idle aways when a user has multiple concurrent sessions

We released new versions both the IM server and messenger client. These minor updates improved functionality with sending automated idle away messages in situations when a user has several connections to the communication server. The issue could occur when a user moved to another PC and left a running messenger application on his previous workstation. Thus the messenger client could switch to away mode automatically due idle time and could reply on every incoming message even the user was online on the second computer and could have a conversation. Now the IM server tells all instances of the messenger running under same account that the user has multiple concurrent connections and no idle away messages must be sent back automatically to incoming messages.

IM server fixed setting up a private password for user accounts

We updated Bopup Communication Server software and released version 4.3.15. This is a minor update of the IM server but it fixes the issue with setting password for an account in Private login/password authentication mode. It worked properly when a password set during account creation but not from subsequent editing users.

Log out function is available in IM clients even Simple or Windows Authentication are used

Both Bopup Messenger and Bopup Observer messaging clients improved "Log out..." function that is accessible from Messages menu. Now that item is available always when a messenger is connected and even Simple or Windows Authentication modes are used. Previously this menu option was available only if Private login/password authentication used.

Now it is possible to disconnect from the IM server without closing the messenger application. This will allow to change login name and enter to IM network with another credentials.

Another important change is that the messaging clients will bring and show "Login" pane in the main window every time when the same user has entered to the IM network from another computer/device and when only a single connection per each account is permitted. Now the pane will be shown not only if Private login/password used but also under Simple and Windows Authentication.

Bopup Communication Server added bulk edit of user accounts

New version 4.3.14 of Bopup Communication Server has been recently released and it now supports modifying multiple user accounts simultaneously. It is possible to select several users accounts under Organizational Unit lists or in Find Users view then click Edit button on the toolbar or right-click and choose "Edit..." from the popup menu. Bulk edit of user accounts allow to change all fields except users' Organizational Unit and Contact Lists.

Another change in the console is regarding Password tab shown in the user's properties dialog box which has been removed. Functions to set and reset password are now available on the Authentication tab and activated if Private login/password mode is chosen.

Management Console also added new field called "Contact List status" in Organizational Units and Find Users lists that shows a locked status of user's contacts if that option is used. User's profile page also added a display of this value.

Important update for Bopup Messenger client

We released Bopup Messenger version 6.5.3 that fixes important issue with expanding groups shown in Contact List. A group is always kept collapsed even a user clicks on "+" sign to expand it to show assigned accounts. This bug came with previous version 6.5.2 that improved showing users in the contacts and displaying notifications on new messages from offline users. So it is strongly required to update the messenger client if prior version 6.5.2 was already installed.
